Did I mention that this applies to both you and your dog? Desert Paws Dog Sports offers classes in agility at all levels from pre-agility (for puppies) to advanced. Classes are taught using motivational methods and positive reinforcement. Learning is kept fun with the use of food, toys and lots of praise. Before starting agility training, your dog must respond consistently to basic obedience commands, like sit, down and stay. Most importantly your dog must come when called.
Agility is a dog sport that saw its beginning in Great Britain in 1978 as a demonstration to fill time between events at the world famous Crufts Dog Show. Agility is based on equestrian show jumping, with obstacles added especially for dogs.
Agility is meant to be a fun, non-regimented sport, with lots of spectator appeal. It combines handler control, agility and confindence as the dog is guided through a timed course. Courses include any combination of jumps, tunnels, weave poles, the dog walk, the A-frame, the teeter and the table. IMPORTANT NOTE: agility equimpment can be dangerous for the dog if the equipment is sub-standard or if the obstacles are performed incorrectly.
